Freestyle vs Skeletool – The Comparison

Now that we know these multi-tools better, it’s time to compare them head-to-head to see how they compare to each other and which one is better.

Leatherman Freestyle is from the same family of multi-tools as Skeletool so they both share a similar look.

At a first glance Freestyle and Skeletool have pretty much the same tools as a base: Needlenose and regular pliers, wire and hard-wire cutters, and a 420HC combo knife; here the Skeletool takes the lead because it also features a carabiner/bottle opener and a large bit driver with driver’s heads included.

Size & Weight

Leatherman Freestyle weights 4.5 ounces with a closed length of 3.45 in and the primary blade with a length of 2.6 in, while the Skeletool weighs 5 ounces with a closed length of 4 in and the primary blade length of 2.6 in just like the Freestyle. Here, Leatherman Freestyle is smaller and lighter than the Skeletool with the same blade length.

Finally, the main difference between Leatherman Freestyle and Skeletool is the dimension of the multi-tools and the different functions it has, Freestyle is more compact but with fewer tools, while Skeletool is bigger with more functions. Both Freestyle and Skeletool as very good EDC multi-tools but if we are going to choose one, we would pick the Leatherman Skeletool as the winner between the two of them.
