Back in time when multitools were not available one had to carry his tools in a bag, when needed for a tiny bit of work. It even required quite an effort of unpacking the backpack, taking out the tool bag, selecting the required tool and then the process of packing them again. It was quite a time consuming process for a task that could be finished in a minute or two. But now, thanks to the new innovation life has been made easy by the entry of multitools in the world. Multitools are a new trend in today’s era. A multitool is of no use if not readily available when needed. Easily portable multitools can be seen in the market that can either be placed in your pockets or in your backpack or a small purse to carry in.
SOG Sync II Review – Overview
SOG, a company known for crafting knives and innovative tools since 1986 does not fail in surprising the world with new innovations, different from the rest of the world. As the chief designer and founder of SOG Spencer Frazer says, “we don’t settle for ordinary. We never did, and we never will.” With the aim of changing the shape but not compromising on the usefulness one of the amazing tools designed by Spencer Frazer are syncs: multi tools designed to be fitted with the belt in place of the ordinary buckle performing one job only or simply to be clipped with the boots or straps on your bag. Starting off with sync I and now sync II with new additions of tools and one to hoard bigger belt loops.
This multitool ensures to accompany you anywhere you go taking no extra space. Simply placed in place of your belt buckle. This belt buckle stays safe and locked when not needed and easily detaches in no time when required.
This belt buckle size is 3.1 inches when closed and when opened it has a length of 5.8 inches. It weighs 5 ounces as the tool alone and when the base included the weight goes up to 8.9 ounces. This buckle sized multi tool is best for a belt up to 1 – ¾ inches width. It comprises 12 different handy tools.
- Straight blade
- Nut grippers
- Screw drivers ( small and medium flat head)
- Philips screwdriver
- Wire cutter
- Wire crimper
- Bottle openers
Design and Quality Control
The tools in the buckle are crafted in 5Cr15MoV stainless steel, therefore being soft steel in nature making it easy to sharpen hence more cutting can be done with less sharpening. For the handle stainless steel is used which although adds some weight but keeps the gadget away from corrosion. Stainless steel being slippery in nature and difficult in handling this issue is overcome beautifully by SOG by adding jumping along the handle when the tool is unfolded. For good gripping along the handle there are some etchings. The finishing of the tool and handle has been done in bead blasted finish which gives it a quite smooth grey matte finish.
